G.L. Johnson Memorial Scholarship

The Johnson Memorial Scholarship is named in honor of Reverend G.L. Johnson and his wife, Jackie. The Johnsons served The Peoples Church in Fresno, California for over 40 years, beginning in 1963 with about 150 people and eventually creating the region’s first megachurch. Pastor Johnson retired in 2008 and went home to be with the Lord in 2011. God called Jackie Johnson home in 2017.

During their decades of service, the Johnsons ministered to people from all walks of life throughout California’s Central Valley and even around the world. Thousands became Christians as a result of their faithfulness and thousands more were discipled through the ministry of Peoples Church. Scores of men and women attribute their call into the Christian ministry to the influence of Pastor Johnson.

His decades of faithful service resulted in Reverend Johnson being regarded as “Fresno’s Pastor.” His legacy live on through the impact he had on many religious and civic leaders. Pastor Johnson was also a strong advocate of education in general but especially of theological and ministerial training. He was instrumental in beginning Fresno Christian School and the former California Theological Seminary. He also served on the boards of several educational institutions, as well as numerous civic organizations.
